To Mary-Mae Dowe, National Demo Manager/Canada Royal Canin,Guelph,Ontario
October 16,2010 was National Feral Cat Day and was celebrated here in Niagara with a special event at the Fairview Mall in St.Catharines.
On behalf of the Welland Feral Cat Support Group and the many other rescue groups represented, I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Royal Canin for their invaluable support and contributions on October 16.
The personal and professional dedication of your representative, Brenda Paul,ISPS, was especially praiseworthy and Brenda spent the entire day offering valuable assistance to every organization in attendance.
Royal Canin's generosity and Brenda's personal efforts were major factors in making the day the success that it was.
We very much look forward to working with Royal Canin and Brenda in the near future in support of our common goals to assist all animals in need.
Once again, many thanks to Royal Canin for demonstrating such corporate responsibility and caring for the lives of our fellow animals.
Respectfully, on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves.....
Tony Porcaro, Founder, The Welland Feral Cat Support Group.

October 16 2011 was National Feral Cat Day
The Welland Feral Cat Support Group will honor this day by reminding people that Trap-Neuter-Return and other humane programs for feral cats are in the best interest of the cats and the community.
Feral cats are members of the domestic cat species but normally cannot be adopted into homes. They live outdoors in family groups called colonies and TNR is the best course of action for feral cats because it ends the breeding cycle and stops behaviors associated with mating.
National Feral Cat Day was launched in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for feral and stray cats and a recognized authority on TNR - a program in which cats who live outdoors are humanely trapped and brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered and vaccinated; friendly cats and kittens are put up for adoption; scientific evidence and decades of hands-on experience show that TNR is more humane than "catch and kill". The cost of catch and kill outweighs the cost to operate TNR programs but, sadly, being killed in an animal pound or shelter is still the leading cause of death for cats.
Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies, has offered her support to WFC (Welland Feral Cats) in its efforts to educate neighbours about the benefits of TNR programs and the laws under the Ontario Animal Welfare Act.
WFC is in the process of becoming a nonprofit charitable foundation and is actively involved in petitioning the Ontario legislature for support for the establishment of a low-cost spay/neuter clinic to serve all of Niagara.
A major event marking National Feral Cat Day and involving all Niagara region rescue groups will be held on Oct. 16 from 8am to 6pm at the Fairview Mall, St.Catharines, in front of Zehr's.
Thank you... On behalf of all those who cannot speak for themselves, Tony Porcaro, (Founder,Welland Feral Cat Support Group), Welland, Ontario.
